  1. There were two surveys issued. One for users and another for non users. They targeted key aspects for each type of user. There was a problem with the surveys because they did no ask any questions about other physical activity patterns outside of the SRC.

SCSU's fitness center didn't affect my choice too much. As long as St Cloud had one it was ok with me. At my fist college the fitness center was about 5 times as big as SCSU's. They used this as their major feature when showing new students around.

  2. The methods used to conduct the study were surveys. They used two different surveys for users and nonusers and the sampling was used to determine satisfaction with the student recreation center. They got a lot of information about the consumer, like demographics and how often the facility was used, they didn't get a lot of information on local competitors. They asked about whether or not they like the programs ofter by the company, and I don't think they asked any questions about the climate. It was an extensive survey that asked many questions and provided an insight onto the prospective of the students that attend that college.
SCSU's fitness center did not affect my decision to attend SCSU, this is because I commute to college everyday (hour and a half almost), in fact I didn't know anything about it's fitness center when I made my decision to attend SCSU. If I lived on campus and had more of a traditional students life it probably would have made an impact on my decision because I like working out.

  3. How they conducted the study was by the use of surveys. They asked the users of the SRC on where they were located, how much they actually use the facility and what not. They also did another survey for the non-members of the SRC. I think surveys is the best study they used although they could have asked a wider variety of questions to build their study more and provide more information afterwards. The fitness center had a big impact on where I went to college. It not only provided me with a facility to work out in but also a job as well. Using the facility and being employed has provided many opportunities for me. I think having a fitness center and a good facility is a big key in some students lives because of stress and staying healthy and in other students it will have no impact at all.

  4. Since everyone has already talked about the surveys I'll talk about the SCSU fitness center. It really didn't have much of an impact for me because I was more interested in the sport facilities. I can see how the facilities here could influence a person to come here as what we have is pretty nice although I've seen much better. I think nice facilities and program are a need for a college to attract students as school isn't the only area that people look for

  5. The building of the new student recreation center came about through a host of surveys giving to students and other non-members of the SRC. Through the surveys they found that the majority of the users were males and that the usage frequency would increase dramatically. I don't believe that a fitness center is a huge deal when it comes to students choosing their colleges. But it could be the one little nudge that gets a student to pick one college over another. They can see what other schools are doing to promtoe their general student welfare and try to combat that with their own social and fitness buildings to create a better atmosphere for the students.

  6. I think that the facilities at SCSU are great for attracting students to come here. Everything is state of the art and new. The design overall looks great as well. However it was the athletics and other Athlete facilities which lured myuself to coming here being i play football. I knew i wouldn't ever use the fitness center but for others it is great and i believe part of tuition should go to paying for improvements on it. Not too much though.

  7. The new student recreation center research was done by the use of surveys. The surveys provided information about the consumers and the company. Not many questions were asked about the climate or local competitors. The recreation center here at SCSU did not really persuade me to come here since I commute to class everyday. I have other local gyms that I have joined.

  8. As everyone stated before it was two surveys taken and were given to people who attend st. cloud state and others who are not. I think in regards to choosing a college that there should be a good fitness and recreation center so it gives students options to go to to relieve some stress from school as well as maintain a healthy lifestyle. I think in regards to recruiting athletes for sports, good fitness and good recreational facilities can go a long way in have people choose to come here as an athlete and a student.

  9. This SCSU fitness center didn't make a huge impact on me personally. I don't ever use the fitness center but the dome and fieldhouse are really nice to have in the winter so you can stay fit without being cold. I also enjoy playing basketball in the fieldhouse and football and baseball in the dome. Being a baseball player here it is real nice to have a giant space like the dome.
The article targeted the main users and the non users so that they could generate questions to why or why not use their facility. They used surveys and found out males were the key users.

  10. they conducted the study through surveys. They asked the users of SRC their demographics and questions about how much they use the facility. They did an additional survey for the non-members of the SRC.
For me the fitness center here at St. Cloud didn't have an effect on whether i was going to attend this university. It was however, important to me that they had somthing available to us. I would like to see the fitness center expanded because it does get really crowded up there which is a let down.

  11. Through a host of surveys they found that usage of the fitness center would increase dramatically. Although, I would have to agree with Jeff when he says fitness centers are not a huge deal when students are choosing their college but it does have some effect on them. Fitness centers are huge part of colleges and promoting fitness is a very important part of everyones life.

  12. There were two samples used in the surveys, users and nonusers. The focus of the survey was to find out about the use and satisfaction with their university's newly constructed student recreation center. Results indicate that 55% of users were male, almost 80% felt that the SRC had increased their exercise frequently, almost 60% of nonusers were female, and 50% had never visited the SRC. For me the recreation facilities did have a small impact on my decision to attend SCSU.

  13. There were 2 surveys used in the study. The results showed that SRC users were mostly male users, and that the majority felt that the SRC had increased their level of participation in sport. Personally, I can understand the draw SRC have for students. The SCSU SRC was a big draw for me. I liked how they featured a daunting climbing wall and outdoor rec. It's nice to show that our student dollars are going to work in a way in which we can utilize.

  14. The fitness center and recreation facilities had no impact on my decision to attend SCSU. I never had an official tour of the campus so I had to do some research and find out what there was to offer. I had assumed that the recreation facilities and fitness areas would be far superior than what I had in my hometown. Although I have been on other campuses and seen much nicer facilities than SCSU's, I was very impressed the first time I used them. I would agree that for some students the quality of the fitness areas and the programs offered could be the deciding factor when narrowing down choices. With the growing obesity problem and health care concerns, I could definitely see a trend in colleges using state of the art facilities one of their main selling points.

  15. the study was conducted by surveying the students. A total of 655 people completed the survey. 537 of the people said that they were "users" of the SRC, and 118 said that they are "non users." More than half of the SRC users are male. And 62% said that the SRC made them feel more at home, as well as 80% felt that the SRC has increased their excercise frequency.

the SCSU fitness center did not influence me to attend here. I did not take an official tour of the campus or facilities, so I didnt know what it had to offer before choosing this school. I think that it is a very nice facility and it is a great recruiting tool for SCSU athletics.

  16. Personally I liked the fact that the recreation facilities here at SCSU were nice but it was not my deciding factor... actually it wasnt even really close at all. But I do really like the new plans for updating the facility and think that updating the rec center would be benificial to all!

  17. they conducted different surveys and found that mostly males were using the SRC. They found that it would increase their usage by quite a bit. I personally didn't come to SCSU because of the Rec Center, but it was a great bonus. The Rec Center here is great and now they are renovating the hockey center. I think it will have to depend on the person if they want to go to a school because the Rec Center is amazing or not.

  18. They used to surveys to collect information from users and nonusers. They got a lot of information about consumers, including demographics and satisfaction. The fitness center at SCSU wasn't one of the reasons I chose to attend this university. I am a transfer student from the U of M, which has a lot better recreation facility. I could see how having a fitness center would be a big deciding factor for students, but at this point in time, most universities have pretty decent recreation centers, which is why the expansion and remodelign of ours is going to be important.

  19. The survey size seemed adequate to the average amount of students using the SRC daily. This sample size gave good representation of the users. Another good piece of information that could have been in the study would be the amount of students that use the SRC for Pess122 or those on sport teams. I think the decision for students to choose a university is not influenced primarily on Recreation for students but more so on location and reputation. I trasferred here because it was easy to transfer here and I am from around here. I have used the SRC and it is nice. The trend is a good trend to draw students in but having great Rec facilities should be implemented wither to draw students for enrollment or not. Student pay a lot for schooling and extra fees. We should be getting nice faicities as and extra to our education.

  20. Great comments! As Zach stated - "it does depend on the person" if the fitness center impacts their decision to attend the college or not. That is exactly the point of this conversation...understanding your consumer. What (type) of consumer might be impacted by a fitness center? Not "students" in general. But - what type of student? Chracteristics...this is the path to understanding you consumer...

  21. This study was conducted by surveying close to a thousand college students and asking them what impact student recreation centers had on their lives. I feel like there was a sufficient sample for this survey which led to interesting results. I do not feel that student recreation centers are a major factos in a person's decision on which college to attent. Some schools do have state of the art facilities that are used for recruiting but those facilities are usually for athletes and restricted to other students. SRC's are one of many factors that influence ones decision about which college attend.
